Scottish Premier League club Glasgow Rangers has officially announced the appointment of 39-year-old Russell Martin as head coach of the men's first team on a three-year contract.
Martin has coached MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton, and led Southampton back to the Premier League in 2024. He has rich coaching experience and clear ideas. Martin played 29 games for the Scottish national team as a player and served as captain of Norwich City.
In 2018, Martin also played for Rangers on loan for a short time and is no stranger to the club. Speaking of his new appointment, Martin said: "It is a great honor for me to return to Rangers and start a new chapter as head coach."
“I know the desire, responsibility and history of this club and I will do my best to bring the fans and the club the success they deserve. Pre-season preparations have already begun. I look forward to meeting the players and building a squad that the fans can trust.”
Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh spoke highly of the appointment: "I am delighted to welcome Russell to Rangers. His performance throughout the selection process has been impressive. This is not only a head coach appointment, but also part of the club's culture building."
Cavenagh pointed out that Martin's joining embodies Rangers' philosophy of attracting top talents, empowering them and supporting them, and believes that he can help build a sustainable long-term structure while improving on-field performance.
As preparations for the new season officially begin, Russell Martin will shoulder the heavy responsibility of leading the team back to glory. Under his leadership, Rangers look forward to a new era of competitiveness and cohesion.
