St. Pauli announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has decided to extend the loan of New York City's American international defensive midfielder James Sands for another season.
According to St. Pauli's official statement, Sands will play for the club on-loan until the summer of 2026, and the loan agreement includes a non-compulsory buyout clause.
About James Sands
James Sands, 24, was born on July 6, 2000 in New York, USA. He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder and can also play as a center back. His twin brother Will is also a professional footballer and currently plays for New England Revolution as a defensive midfielder.
Sands joined the New York City youth academy with his brother at the age of 10, and completed his first New York City first-team debut in the Major League Soccer (MLS) match against the Colorado Rapids in September 2017, where he came on as a substitute for legendary Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo.
During his seven-year spell with New York City, Sands won a Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup once with the club and also played on-loan for Louisville City, where he has won the USL Cup once with the latter.
In January 2022, Sands was loaned-out to Rangers. During this spell, he won the Scottish Cup with the club and reached the Europa League final.
