The Oklahoma City Thunder received a major boost as All-Star forward and 2024–25 NBA Third Team member Jalen Williams will make his season debut against the Phoenix Suns.
According to multiple media reports, Williams has been removed from the team's injured list and is confirmed to be available to play, ending a 19-game hiatus. Williams underwent two wrist surgeries during the offseason.
The first surgery took place in July to repair the ligament tear Williams sustained while playing through the injury during the Thunder's playoff championship run. A second surgery was then performed in late October to remove screws that were causing the discomfort.
Multiple surgeries slightly delayed Williams' return, but he remained positive, continuing to train and adjust his shooting technique. He revealed that he had to rely on painkillers during last season's playoffs and relearn his shooting motion, but still delivered outstanding performances.
Last season, Williams played 69 games for the Thunder, averaging career highs of 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. He was selected to the All-Star team for the first time, as well as the All-Defensive Second Team and the All-NBA Third Team. He was an indispensable core player in the Thunder's championship run.
Despite missing Williams, the Thunder are still dominating the 2025–26 season, currently sitting atop the Western Conference with an 18-1 record and holding the NBA record for best point differential in the first 19 games (+16.5). Their offensive efficiency ranks among the top three in the league, and their defensive efficiency is the best, showcasing championship potential.
Williams' return is seen as making the already strong team even stronger. His versatile playing style, wing defense, and playmaking abilities will further solidify the Thunder's offensive and defensive balance, injecting more firepower into an already powerful roster.
