In the first round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, Juventus hosted Borussia Dortmund. The two sides engaged in a goal-scoring battle in the second half, but the game ended in a 4-4 draw.
Juventus struck first in the opening stages. In the 4th minute, Kevren Thuram's long-range shot from outside the penalty area was saved by Greg Kerber, earning Juventus a corner kick. In the 5th minute, Theen Kupmenas's cross from the left corner was met by Lloyd Kelly's header, which went just over the bar.
Juventus's attack didn't stop there. In the 22nd minute, Kenan Yildiz took a corner kick from the right side, and Lois Oponda's close-range shot hit the side netting. In the 32nd minute, Yildiz passed the ball to the center of the penalty area, and Jonathan David's shot went over the crossbar.
The deadlock was broken at the start of the second half, but not by Juventus, who had been more aggressive in the first half. In the 52nd minute, Serhu Guirassi assisted Karim Adeyemi's long-range shot, giving Dortmund a 1-0 lead. In the 56th minute, Adeyemi's through ball caused defensive errors by Pierre Kalulu and Weston McKennie, allowing Guirassi's powerful shot to be blocked by Michel DiGregorio.
In the 63rd minute, Joao Mario cut in from the right and passed the ball to Yildiz, who fired home to equalize for Juventus. However, Felix Nmecha scored from a long range in the 65th minute to put Dortmund ahead again.
The game quickly entered a frenzy. In the 67th minute, Yildiz delivered a precise through ball during a quick counterattack, setting up Dusan Vlahović for a solo goal. In the 74th minute, Yan Couto and Marcel Zabice combined to steal Thuram Jr. from the frontcourt, allowing Couto to break through and score from the right side of the penalty area. In the 83rd minute, Guilasi's shot from inside the penalty area drew a handball foul from Lloyd Kelly. Rami Bensebaini then converted the penalty kick, extending Dortmund's lead to two goals.
In injury time, Juventus, seemingly on the brink of defeat, launched a desperate counterattack. In the 94th minute, Kalulu's cross from the right was met by Vlahovic, who volleyed home to complete their brace. Two minutes later, Kelly headed home a Vlahovic cross from the right. Kelly's goal tied the score at 4-4 in the final moments.
At the end of the game, both sides ended up in a draw and each got one point.
