Matt Dougherty: We have to keep going and keep believing

Matt Doherty stated that Wolves players are taking responsibility for improving their performance and giving their all in training in an effort to change the course of their season. The Ireland international made a swift return from wrist surgery to lead the team away to the Stadium of Light. However, he could not conceal his disappointment at the end of the game, as his team missed a good opportunity and ultimately conceded a late winner to Sunderland.

The 33-year-old veteran has played more than 300 games for the club. He understands the fans' current disappointment, but still firmly believes that the team has the strength to rebound quickly.

Matt Doherty admitted that the team's current situation is unacceptable. He said: "We are indeed very disappointed. Whenever we create good opportunities, we always find it difficult to complete the shot. At the same time, it is difficult to effectively stop the opponent on the defensive end. Despite the huge investment in training this week, we are very frustrated with the current situation."

"We've tried almost everything, but we also know that things can change very quickly in football. We have another chance next week when we face Burnley at home. Looking back at last season, we started to turn things around with just one win. We know that just one win can completely change the atmosphere of the whole season. So this is our approach, and everyone of us firmly believes in it."

"We know that a real rebound is just one or two wins away. I know it's easy to say and a lot of fans might not believe it until they see tangible results. But we've been there before, we had a precedent last season. Once we get back to feeling, we can beat any opponent."

Matt Doherty stressed the team's sense of responsibility for the current predicament. He said: "Every team should take responsibility, and we have done it. We are a group of serious and responsible people who always want to do the best for Wolves. Wolves is the club I have played for almost my entire career, so the current situation is particularly painful for me."

"We do have leaders in the team, but we still have a long way to go. I've been in similar situations, so I firmly believe that with the joint efforts of the coach and the players, we can not only get out of the trough, but also achieve real success."

"We demand a lot from each other, both in training and in daily life. The season isn't over yet, we have to remain stable and stick to our beliefs. We understand the fans' emotions and we share their frustration. But as players, we have to hold on to the pressure until the situation improves. This is our responsibility."

"One of the charms of sport is that every week brings new opportunities. We know Sunderland's strength and, although the result is not satisfactory, we also know the importance of next weekend's game. In the coming week, we will go all out to find the best strategy to beat Burnley. We will be fully prepared and look forward to the enthusiastic support of the fans."

He said of his injury recovery: "It was originally expected to take six to eight weeks to recover, and now it has been two and a half weeks. I feel good overall, and I am still in a big plaster. It is indeed difficult to be completely unaffected, but I am fine. The recovery is progressing quickly because I almost don't feel any pain now."
