Colombia thumped Australia 3-0 in an international friendly at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday.

The first half ended goalless. In the second half, Rodríguez scored a penalty, Díaz tapped into the empty net, and Lerma added another from close range. Colombia ultimately triumphed with a comfortable 3-0 win over Australia.

First Half

In the 23rd minute, Yáser Asprilla made a straight pass from near the midfield center circle. Luis Díaz quickly followed up, got the ball with his back, turned around and adjusted his angles before taking a left-footed shot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Paul Izzo.

In the 45th minute, Australia had a free-kick opportunity. Riley McGree took the free-kick from outside the penalty area by directly taking a left-footed shot, but his shot was saved by Camilo Vargas.

When the first half ended, Colombia and Australia temporarily entered the break being goalless. 

Second Half

Both teams switch sides as the match continued. In the 50th minute, Australia had a throw-in opportunity. Jackson Irvine took the throw-in, by sending the ball into the box with a long throw. Upon receiving the pass, Mohamed Touré half-vollyed with a right-footed overhead kick from the center of the box, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.

In the 74th minute, James Rodríguez delivered an overhead through ball into the box from the right wing. After beating the offside trap, Santiago Arias quickly followed up and got the ball in the penalty area before being brought down by Callum Elder. The referee immediately blew her whistle, awarding Colombia a penalty!

James took the penalty himself by converting it with his left foot. Colombia broke the deadlock first to take a 1-0 lead! This is the former Monaco, Real Madrid, and Everton star's 31st international goal. He only needs five more goals to equal his former teammate Radamel Falcao's record as the all-time leading scorer for Los Cafeteros!

In the 90th minute, after picking up the loose ball, Luis Díaz took a few steps, and then easily scored by pushing the ball into the bottom right corner of the empty net with his right foot from the center of the box, extending Colombia's lead to 2-0! This is the Bayern Munich winger's 21st international goal and his 13th in all competitions this season!

In the third minute of injury time, Colombia won a corner opportunity. James took the corner by crossing it into the box. Davinson Sánchez rose high and attempted with a header in the box. However his effort was initially saved and cleared off not far away by Izzo. Jefferson Lerma quickly followed up and after picking up the loose ball, strucked the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with a right-footed follow-up shot from a very close distance in the box, sealing a 3-0 victory for Colombia!

When the final whistle is blown, Colombia thrashed Australia 3-0.
