Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Wednesday that Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zeitler has officially joined the club. The two sides have signed a four-year contract, valid until June 30, 2029.
In Frankfurt, Zeitler will wear the No. 23 jersey. He is seen as the successor to Kevin Trapp, who confirmed yesterday that he will join the newly promoted French Ligue 1 team Paris FC.
The 30-year-old Zettler was born in Munich, Germany, and grew up in the Unterhaching youth system. He officially joined Werder Bremen in January 2015 and was subsequently loaned to Klagenfurt and Zwolle in Austria to gain experience.
On September 11, 2022, Zetler made his first-team debut for Werder Bremen in the sixth round of the Bundesliga. To date, he has made 80 appearances for Werder Bremen and kept 22 clean sheets.
According to German media reports, the base fee for the transfer is 5 million euros, and if floating bonuses are included, the total price can reach up to 5.8 million euros.
Following the transfer, Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting director Markus Kroescher said: "With Michael Zeitler, we have acquired a goalkeeper of exceptional quality and equally impressive technique. At Werder Bremen, he has proven himself to be an above-average goalkeeper. His ambition and winning mentality perfectly align with our side at Eintracht Frankfurt. It is crucial for us to start the new season with a strong and balanced goalkeeping unit – and Michael is an essential part of that."
Zettler went on to add: "I would only leave Werder Bremen if the team met my expectations in every respect - and at Frankfurt, this feeling was clear from the very first conversation. The club's vision is very clear. I am delighted to be part of it and will do my best to help the team achieve our goals."
