Gilgeous-Alexander eyes tougher opponents to improve

The 2025/26 NBA season is about to begin, and Oklahoma City Thunder star Gilgeous-Alexander said in a recent interview that in order to observe his own abilities, he is very much looking forward to competing against stronger stars on the court.
In the 2024/25 NBA regular season, Gilgeous-Alexander played 76 games for the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 32.7 points per game, 51.9% shooting and 37.5% three-point shooting.
In addition, Gilgeous-Alexander helped the Oklahoma City Thunder win the NBA championship that season and was named Finals MVP.
"I have no disrespect for guys my age, but the guys I want to play against the most are LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and James Harden," said 27-year-old Gilgeous-Alexander.
"These are the players I grew up watching, the players who have made lasting marks on basketball history and achieved everything I could ever hope to achieve. There's no better way to test what I can do than to play against them."
Gilgeous-Alexander said, "This is certainly a step in the right direction, there is no doubt about it. The great players that I have studied, admired and followed have been able to reach these heights many times. I still have a lot of work to do. I don't play basketball to just win once and then be done with it."
In addition, Gilgeous-Alexander also said that he draws a lot of inspiration from the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
Gilgeous-Alexander said, "I didn't have the opportunity to meet Kobe Bryant in person. But it wasn't just me, countless children around the world were influenced by him. His spirit and mark will be remembered forever as a great competitor and basketball player."
"Hopefully, one day, as a player, I can get closer to him in some way. He was a special talent and a special person, may God rest his soul."
