Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe responded to striker Alexander Isak's injury recovery and his future plans at a pre-match press conference during his Asian tour.

Isaac did not travel with the team to Asia for the first phase of the pre-season tour. Howe explained that Isaac felt thigh discomfort before the game against the Celtics and was initially diagnosed with a minor strain.

However, on the day of the first training session after the game, Isaac withdrew from the course early, saying that there was still something wrong. He has now returned to Newcastle United for further evaluation.

Howe said: "We thought it was just a minor issue, but he didn't feel right in training and is now being checked out. Hopefully he can recover soon and wear the black and white jersey again."

Howe also responded positively to recent transfer rumors surrounding Isaac. He stressed that the club's trust and expectations for Isaac remain unchanged and hopes that he can stay with the team for a long time. Howe said: "We will keep confidential the content of his conversations with the club or me."

"But what is certain is that the relationship between us is very good. He has performed well since joining and is very popular in the dressing room. We certainly hope that he can continue to stay at Newcastle United."
