Mavericks GM Nico Harrison excited about Cooper Flagg being selected as NBA No. 1 pick

The Dallas Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg out of Duke University in this year's draft, and Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison said exciting things are coming to the team.

Cooper Flagg from Maine played 31 games for Duke University in the 2024/25 season, averaging 19.2 points per game and a 3-point shooting percentage of 38.5%, which was an outstanding performance.

It is worth mentioning that the 18-year-old Cooper Flagg has become the second youngest No. 1 draft pick in history after LeBron James in 2003, and the shooting guard will wear the No. 32 jersey in the new NBA season.

Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison said, "I was really surprised to get the No. 1 pick in the draft. All my preparations before the draft were based on the 11th pick, but sometimes things happen like this. The brave will always be blessed, and exciting things have come to us."

When talking about the emotions of the fans, Nico Harrison said, "Since we won the first pick, I have seen the reaction of the fans and felt that everyone is very optimistic and positive about the future. I hope the fans will not be so dissatisfied with me. I think maybe it will be a little better."
