On October 18th, local time, the seventh round of the 2025/26 Serie A season was underway at the Stadio Olimpico. After 90 minutes of fierce battle, Inter Milan defeated Roma 1-0 away.

With this victory, Inter Milan secured their fourth consecutive league victory and temporarily topped the standings. Roma, tied with Inter Milan and Napoli on 15 points, is in third place due to a lower goal difference.

Just six minutes into the match, Nicolo Barella's long pass from midfield set up Ange-Ioan Bony, who volleyed home Inter's opener. Roma, trailing by a goal, launched a counterattack, but were unable to convert. In the 13th minute, Paulo Dybala's corner kick was met by Bryan Cristante, who headed the ball just wide. In the 27th minute, Dybala again took a corner kick from the right, but Evan Ndicka's close-range header also missed.

After the break, Roma continued to put pressure on Inter. In the 52nd minute, Manu Cone delivered a precise diagonal pass from the left, and Dybala, unmarked, pushed his shot into the near corner, but it was saved by Jan Sommer. A minute later, Lorenzo Pellegrini sent in a corner kick from the left, and Mario Hermoso's header was still blocked by Sommer. In the 64th minute, Gianluca Mancini sent a through ball upfield, and Sule, after breaking into the penalty area, managed to push his shot, but Sommer fell to the ground and saved it.

Despite Roma's onslaught, Inter Milan managed a threatening counterattack just before the end of the match: in the 84th minute, Davide Fratesi's inverted triangle cross from the right flank found Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who fired home a shot that hit the right post. Neither side made any further progress, and Inter Milan won the match 1-0.
