The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 of the Finals to win their first NBA championship.
The team's core player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the Bill Russell Finals MVP with his key performance of 29 points and 12 assists, bringing a perfect end to his best season of his career.
Although Gilgeous-Alexander had a poor shooting percentage in this campaign (8 of 27 shots, 2 of 12 three-pointers), he led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the lead since the second half with excellent organization and composure in the decisive moment, truly demonstrating his leadership style.
After the game, the 26-year-old MVP said excitedly on the sidelines: "Too many times, emotions, and nights are intertwined. I didn't believe it, but I always believed it. The dream I had when I was a child came true today."
"Sometimes I can't believe I'm that level of player. Thank you to everyone who supported me and got me to where I am today."
This season, Gilgeous-Alexander won the NBA scoring title with an average of 32.7 points per game, and won the regular season MVP with a large lead over Jokic. He then won the Western Conference Finals MVP and Finals MVP, becoming the fourth player in history after Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and O'Neal to win these three honors in a single season.
Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault also spoke highly of Gilgeous-Alexander: "No matter what the situation, he is always calm and confident, and his steadiness infects the entire team. He is not only the best player, but also the most reliable spiritual pillar."
