The Premier League has entered the final sprint stage. Fulham will challenge Southampton away. Coach Marco Silva said the team will devote all their efforts to the last five rounds of the competition and strive to achieve the season goals.
Currently, Fulham has experienced two consecutive defeats and ranks 9th with 48 points, but is only one point behind Bournemouth, which is 8th, which means Fulham still has a chance to qualify for European competitions. At the pre-match press conference, Silva admitted that this stage is exactly what all aspiring teams are looking forward to.
"If you want to be successful, you work for stages like this," Silva said. "Whether it's a title or a cup semi-final, every team is eager to have a chance to achieve something at the end of the season."
"At the beginning of the season our goal was to get into the top half of the standings, and that goal hasn't changed. We are now in a position where we can fight for it and we will go all out. We have worked hard throughout the season to get to this crucial moment today."
Facing the upcoming away challenge, Silva did not dare to underestimate the opponent against Southampton, who had been relegated in advance. He recalled the first leg against Southampton in December last year, when Fulham was tied by Southampton led by interim coach Simon Rusk.
"That game took place during a difficult period after they changed their coach, and the situation was different from now. However, judging from their last two games, their tactical arrangement has not changed much. They still use a five-back system with a compact formation. But no matter how the opponent adjusts, our way of playing will not change." Silva added.
