The Boston Celtics officially announced today that they have signed English center Amari Williams to a two-way contract. As is customary with the team, the specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Williams, 23, was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 46th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Standing about 7 feet tall and weighing 262 pounds, he played for Drexel University and the University of Kentucky in college.

Williams played a total of 141 games for Drexel University and the University of Kentucky, starting 115 of them, averaging 10.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 52.9% from the field.

In the 2024-25 season, Williams played one season at the University of Kentucky, starting all 36 games for the team and showing his versatile inside performance. He averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. He not only led the team with 306 rebounds and a 56.1% shooting percentage, but also had 115 assists, tied for the team first.

This number also broke the University of Kentucky's historical record, and Williams became the first 7-foot player to have more than 100 assists in a single season. Even more commendable, he became only the second player in SEC (Southeastern Conference) history to score at least 375 points, 300 rebounds, 100 assists, 40 blocks and 20 steals in a single season.

Prior to this, Williams spent four brilliant seasons at Drexel University, where he was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Year three times (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24) and twice selected to the All-Conference First Team (2022-23, 2023-24), demonstrating his outstanding defensive dominance.

Williams, a native of England, will bring valuable interior length and defensive energy to the Boston Celtics. Through a two-way contract, he will be able to flexibly switch between the NBA and the Development League, gradually adapting to the pace of the professional arena.
