Sheffield Wednesday announced on their official website on Wednesday that Burnley's England international attacking midfielder Nathan Redmond has joined the club on a free transfer after his contract had expired.

According to the official statement from the EFL Championship club, which is currently bottom of the table due to financial difficulties caused by the mismanagement of its former Thai owner, Dejphon Chansiri, and recently having been deducted an additional 6 points by the EFL, Redmond has signed on a short-term one-month contract, which will only run until early January 2026.

In his first interview with Sheffield Wednesday's official website after completing the transfer, Redmond said: "I feel good and am very happy to be here. I have been training here for the past few weeks and with Henrik (Pedersen - "I've spent time with the manager, the team, and the coaching staff, and several people have become my mutual friends."

"Due to a lack of proper training, I've obviously been doing extra training sessions on my own for the past few months, and I've also had trials with several other clubs. However, when I spoke with Yan Valery, Nathaniel Chalobah (Redmond's former teammate at Southampton and in the England U21s national team), and the manager, and everyone welcomed me with open arms, I immediately decided to come here."

About Nathan Redmond

The 31-year-old Redmond was born on March 6, 1994, in Birmingham, England. Standing at 1.73 meters tall, he primarily plays as a right winger, but can also play as a left winger, center forward, or attacking midfielder. He holds dual English and Jamaican citizenship.

Redmond joined Birmingham City's youth academy at the age of eight. His exceptional talent from a young age led to his first-team debut as a substitute in an English League Cup match in August 2010.

Later, as Birmingham City faced financial difficulties, Redmond joined Norwich City in July 2013 for £4 million, helping the club win one Championship title.

Although he couldn't prevent Southampton from avoiding relegation in the Premier League, his outstanding performances still earned him considerable media praise.

In July 2016, Redmond joined Southampton for £10 million.

During his six years with the Saints, Redmond consistently became a hero for the club, scoring crucial goals to help them avoid defeat. He also led the team to one League Cup final and even attracted the attention of Liverpool.

In the summer of 2022, Redmond transferred to Beşiktaş for €3 million.

Despite his impressive performances, Redmond left Turkey after his contract expired due to racial discrimination.

In the summer of 2023, Redmond joined Burnley on a free transfer.

During his two-year spell with the Clarets, Redmond has only made 18 appearances in all competitions for the newly promoted Premier League club, providing one assist.
