Everton released a statement on Monday confirming that it has completed a contract extension with Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye. The new contract will be extended from July this year to June 2026, with an option for a one-year extension.
Idrissa Gueye, 35, has played for Everton for six seasons at different stages of his career, making 211 appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 8 assists. He has also played for Lille, Aston Villa, Paris Saint-Germain and other teams, winning three Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, one French League Cup and two French Super Cups with the team.
Everton manager David Moyes explained the decision to keep Gueye: "We are very pleased that Idrissa has renewed his contract. His rich experience and understanding of the club will be crucial in the stage of welcoming many new players and opening the new stadium. Idrissa will also play a major role in helping everyone integrate into the team as quickly as possible."
Gueye said: "Everyone knows what Everton means to me and my family. After six seasons, Everton is no longer just a place where I play football, but a part of my life."
“I’m proud to be embarking on my seventh season as a Blue. Last season was great for me personally and I’m ready, energized and more motivated than ever to keep going.”
“With a new and beautiful stadium now in place, there is a lot of momentum throughout the club. This season feels like a turning point, giving us the opportunity to build something great and lasting.”
“We have laid a solid foundation. The responsibility now lies with each and every one of us: the players, the staff, the manager, the board and, most importantly, the fans. We must all work together to raise the bar again and take Everton back to where it deserves to be.”
