The Washington Wizards officially announced on Friday that they have signed free agent Shareef Cooper to a two-way contract. Cooper will split time between the Wizards and their G League affiliate, the Capital One Go-Go, next season, along with Tristan Vucevic and Jameel Watkins.

Cooper, 24, plays primarily as a point guard and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 48th pick in the second round of the 2021 draft. When Cooper was selected, Wizards senior vice president of player personnel Travis Schlenk was serving as the Hawks' director of basketball operations.

In his rookie season with the Hawks, Cooper played in 13 regular-season games, averaging 0.5 points, 0.4 rebounds, and 0.4 assists in 3.0 minutes per game. He shot 3-for-14 from the field and 1-for-6 from three-point range. He has not played in the NBA since then, instead playing for the G League's Collic Park Skyhawks and Cleveland Charge, China's Liaoning Flying Leopards, Turkey's Merkhefendi, Greece's Ares Thessaloniki, and France's JDA Dijon.

According to statistics, Cooper averaged 19.3 points and 7.0 assists per game in the G League. He also averaged 14.7 points and 3.8 assists per game in the European League.

In addition to Cooper, the Wizards also signed Kayshon Gilbert and Jonathan Pierre to Exhibit 10 contracts. Jonathan Pierre played for the Wizards in Summer League, averaging 7.7 points in 22.2 minutes per game. Kayshon Gilbert, a player from Iowa State University, averaged 13.4 points and 4.1 assists per game last season.
