Dallas Mavericks appoints former Minnesota Timberwolves CEO Ethan Casson as its new team president..

The Dallas Mavericks announced on their official website on Tuesday that they have appointed former Minnesota Timberwolves CEO Ethan Casson as their new team president.

According to the Mavericks' statement, Casson will officially take over on August 11th. His responsibilities will be to manage and report to CEO Rick Welts on the team's day-to-day operations, alleviating the burden on Welts, who also has to oversee the construction of the team's new arena.

Regarding his appointment, Casson said in an interview with the Dallas Mavericks' official website: "Being named team president of the Dallas Mavericks is an extraordinary honour, and I am deeply grateful to Rick and Patrick (Dumont - Mavericks owner) for their confidence in me to lead this iconic franchise."

"This team strives not only to compete at the highest level, but also to provide a world-class experience for the NBA's most passionate and loyal fans."

It's worth noting that this also marks the end of Carson's nine-year tenure with the Timberwolves.

About Ethan Casson

Born in Connecticut, Casson attended Keene Public High School in New Hampshire, USA, and later graduated from Colby-Sawyer College with a degree in Sport Management. He played on the college basketball team and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame (2013) and the Colby-Sawyer College Basketball Hall of Fame (2015).

After graduation, Casson worked for the NFL team San Francisco 49ers.

During his tenure, Carson successfully negotiated a 20-year title sponsorship and naming rights agreement between the 49ers and the world-renowned jeans brand Levi's. He oversaw the completion of the $220 million Levi's Stadium and its inclusion in the 2015 Sports Business Journal's Facility of the Year.

After leaving the 49ers, Casson served as Director of Sponsorship Development at ESPN.

In 2016, Casson was appointed CEO of the Minnesota Timberwolves, concurrently serving as CEO of their G League affiliate, the Iowa Timberwolves, their women's team, the Minnesota Lynx, and their esports team, T-Wolves Gaming.

As CEO, Casson was instrumental in the successful completion of the team's $150 million renovation of Target Center, their home arena, and was widely praised for his implementation of fan ticket deferrals and refunds during the COVID-19 lockdown.
