Egypt's national team director Ibrahim Hassan recently issued a public warning to international player Mohamed Salah, advising him not to join Major League Soccer (MLS) after leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old Salah is about to end his illustrious nine-year career at Anfield. The meritorious striker who has made great contributions to Liverpool is at a critical juncture in deciding where to go next.
In an interview, Hassan clearly expressed his desire for Salah to remain in the top league: "Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe. I've heard offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Italian league clubs."
To emphasize the lack of exposure in MLS, Hassan even cited the example of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, who moved to Inter Miami, bluntly stating: "Transfer to the MLS? He will completely lose attention. You don't remember Salah as much as I remember Messi now, and I don't even watch his games anymore."
"If he doesn't receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good option. Especially with big-name stars like Cristiano Ronaldo there."
Salah is currently sidelined with injury and will miss Egypt's national team training camp in preparation for the North American World Cup. Egypt has been displaying good form recently, following a 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia and is set to play a friendly against Spain. In the World Cup finals, which kick off on June 11th, Egypt is drawn into Group G with Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
