Borussia Mönchengladbach recently announced that Eugen Polanski has officially taken over as first-team manager after nearly two months as interim manager. The two sides signed a three-year contract, valid until June 30, 2028.

The 39-year-old Polanski is from Poland and played for Borussia Mönchengladbach for 14 years during his playing career. He retired in July 2018 and subsequently served as an assistant coach for the first team at the Swiss club St. Gallen for a period of time.

In July 2019, Polanski chose to return to the management of Borussia Mönchengladbach. He has since served as a scout in the coaching staff, head coach of the U17 team, and head coach of the reserve team. In September of this year, he took over as interim head coach of the first team from Gerardo Sevane.

When Sevane left, Borussia Mönchengladbach had gone ten Bundesliga games without a win across seasons. However, after Polanski took over, he led the team to a record of 2 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses in the league, successfully lifting the team from the relegation zone to 12th place in the Bundesliga.

Regarding Sevan's permanent appointment, Borussia Mönchengladbach's sporting director, Ruben Schröder, commented: "We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Eugen after a series of frank and constructive negotiations, with both sides maintaining a respectful attitude throughout. From the beginning, he has impressed us with his outstanding character and ability. We firmly believe that the team can continue the good form shown in recent weeks under his leadership."

Polanski added, "I have never hidden the significance of being the head coach of my hometown club. Coaching Borussia Mönchengladbach is not only a joy but also a great honor. The trust from the club's management is both a huge motivation and an affirmation of the team's efforts."
