Fabrizio Romano refute rumours claiming that Manchester United is interested in signing Ivan Toney during the January transfer window..

Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, has exclusively refuted rumours claiming that Manchester United is interested in signing former Brentford England international striker Ivan Toney during the January transfer window in his paid column on Monday.

In his column, Romano stated that the rumour was entirely fabricated and baseless.

He clarified that while Slovenia international striker Benjamin Šeško will indeed be sidelined with a knee injury, he is only expected to be out for about a month and that the injury is not like a a torn anterior cruciate ligament that would force the club to make an emergency signing in January.

For the reason mentioned above, fabricating the claim that Manchester United intends to sign Toney based solely on this is strikingly similar to the tired excuses which he had already repeatedly denounced thousands of times, i.e.: "Because XX player is injured, XX club intends to sign him as a replacement" (a common tactic used by this website's infamously notorious female rumourmongers, "Ms. Titan," "Ms. Plan To" and "Ms. Hype Up").

Romano also seized the opportunity to refute the following by stating: "Although I have seen some British media reports claiming that several Premier League clubs have approached Al-Ahli to enquire about Ivan Toney's transfer, but in fact, according to sources, such indications have never occurred."

"The truth is that Toney's recent high goal-scoring efficiency has sparked heated debate about whether he should be recalled to the England national team, leading to a series of these related fake rumours."

"What I can confirm is that, as things stand, everything is simply due to the words and opinions of certain journalists and former players, which is why the fake rumours which claimed that Manchester United interested to sign Toney in the January have surfaced online."

"The same applies to rumours claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are also interested."

Upon investigation, the rumours which claimed that Manchester United is interested in signing Toney originated from a fake news published by the British media outlet Manchester Evening News on November 12th.

Later, Sky Sports, where Romano works, went even further, reporting that several Premier League clubs had already approached Al-Ahli regarding Toney's transfer.

Following this, after former England international midfielder Daniel Bentley, who appeared on Sky Sports News as a guest, advocated that "Tottenham should try to sign Toney", this led to a surge of related misinformation stemming from his remarks.

About Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney, 29 years old, was born on March 16, 1996, in Northampton, England. He is 1.85 meters tall, plays as a center forward, and has Jamaican ancestry.

In August 2015, Toney moved to Newcastle United for £500,000. However, due to severe disciplinary issues, he was quickly discarded by the Magpies. Abandoned.

After being discarded by Newcastle, Toney successively played on-loan for Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, and Wigan Athletic.

During this time, he won the League One promotion play-off title and the EFL Trophy with the former, and the League One title with the latter.

In August 2018, Toney was sold to Peterborough United.

During his two-year spell at Peterborough, Toni was named League One Player of the Year for his high goal-scoring record.

In the summer of 2020, Toney joined Brentford for £5 million and scored 33 goals in his first season, helping the Bees gain promotion to the Premier League as EFL Championship play-off winners.

In the following two years, Toney continued his high goal-scoring efficiency and not only successfully helping the Bees avoid relegation in the Premier League and even became an England international.

In May 2023, Toney was banned for eight months for involvement in illegal online gambling.

Last August, Toney joined Al-Ahli for £40 million.
