Liverpool defender Frimpong, in an interview, discussed the challenges of playing for the Reds and insisted that the players must move on from past defeats and help the team continue their Champions League campaign.
The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League will see a key match in its eighth round, with Liverpool hosting Qarabag at Anfield. In the last round of the Champions League, Liverpool defeated Marseille 3-0 thanks to goals from Szoboszlai and Gakpo. Liverpool currently sits in fourth place with 15 points, meaning Sloth's team only needs three points to secure a place in the round of 16.
"Everyone wants to play in the Champions League, which is one of the biggest competitions in the world, so everyone wants to show their abilities on the Champions League stage. We will definitely give it our all and hope to achieve our goals in the end. I think football is sometimes like that, sometimes everything goes smoothly, and sometimes things don't go as planned. We will give our all in every game, but sometimes the results don't go as expected."
"That's all I can say about past results. But in the Champions League, we've performed well and are in a good position. If we win tomorrow, we'll advance to the round of 16, so we're very focused on that. We're still in the FA Cup and still in the Champions League. If we can win both the FA Cup and the Champions League, we'll definitely be very happy."
Frimpong said, "Playing for Liverpool is really great. The atmosphere of the fans was truly amazing when I first experienced it, and playing at Anfield is also a fantastic experience. As for the Premier League, the experience of playing against the opponents has been just as I expected; they are all very strong. Even against teams ranked lower in the standings, they can cause problems for the team."
"As long as I'm on the court, I will give full play to my abilities. I feel quite comfortable in one-on-one situations. I know what kind of threat I can pose to my opponents and I believe in my abilities. If the opponent adopts low post defense, I must find a way to break through their defense. If I can help with my abilities, I will do so."
Furthermore, Frimpong stated, "Liverpool are the defending champions, and everyone wants to beat us. This is normal in the world of football; if a team is the champion, others will want to prove they can beat us. In a sense, it's similar to when I was at Bayer Leverkusen. When we become champions, everyone wants to beat you. That's football, and one of the fascinating things about the sport. When you become the champion, you're seen as the villain."
On the other hand, Liverpool's earlier 2-3 away defeat to Bournemouth in a key Premier League match also caused them to drop to 6th place in the standings.
Frimpong said, "When that happens, it's really frustrating and infuriating, especially losing the game in the last moments like that. A set piece, a throw-in, and a goal in the chaos—it's really annoying. Of course, it's frustrating, but the next day you have to focus on the next game, and my teammates and I have already put our focus on the game against Qarabag."
“I know how strong they are. Having played against them in Leverkusen, I know they are absolutely Champions League caliber. I know tomorrow’s game won’t be easy, so we have to be well prepared and give it our all.”
