In the Atlanta Hawks' 131-116 victory over the Washington Wizards on Saturday, forward Jalen Johnson recorded 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists, achieving a triple-double for the second consecutive night.
This forward, in his fifth year in the league, has had a breakout season. With Trae Young sidelined for an extended period due to a right knee MCL sprain, Johnson has become the team's core engine.
So far this season, Johnson is averaging 23.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game, all of which are better than last season, and he continues to take on more responsibility for offensive organization and scoring.
Hawks head coach Quin Snyder is pleased with Johnson's growth but also emphasizes that his potential is far from exhausted. Snyder stated, "Triple-doubles and stats are certainly great, but what he really wants is to win. He has a lot more room for improvement, and we need him to continue to become more efficient."
Johnson's two consecutive games not only helped the Hawks stabilize their position but also set several records. On Friday against the Denver Nuggets, he completed a triple-double in just 16 minutes and 44 seconds, becoming the second fastest player in NBA history to achieve this feat, second only to Nikola Jokic's 14 minutes and 33 seconds.
The following day, Johnson completed another triple-double, tying him with Bob Sura in 2004 as the only pair in Hawks history to achieve triple-doubles in two consecutive games.
Despite setting two consecutive records, Johnson focused on the victory: "Yesterday was cool, but today is more important because we won. It was the hard work of my teammates that made the game easier, and it's all a team effort."
