Just after the Houston Rockets achieved their first season with a winning percentage of more than 50% since 2019-20 in the 2024-25 season, they made another major move in the offseason.

According to reports from multiple US media, the Houston Rockets have reached a trade agreement with the Phoenix Suns, officially welcoming 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant. Durant's contract with the Houston Rockets will last until 2026, with an annual salary of nearly $50 million.

In this transaction, the Houston Rockets sent out main guard Jalen Green, swingman Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in the 2025 first round, and five future second-round picks.

Durant's departure from the Phoenix Suns marks the end of his two and a half years with the Phoenix Suns. In the 2024-25 season, the Phoenix Suns had a record of only 36 wins and 46 losses, ranking 11th in the Western Conference and missing the playoffs.

After the season ended, the Phoenix Suns also announced the dismissal of head coach Mike Budenholzer. Although Durant formed a Big Three with Booker and Beal, they were unable to lead the team to achieve stable results.

When the trade news broke, Durant was attending the Fanatics Fest NYC event in New York. When the audience began to talk, he smiled brightly and responded with just one sentence: "We'll wait and see."

Durant, 35, remains highly efficient this season, averaging 26.6 points per game. He will start his fifth career stop with the Houston Rockets, joining a young core lineup and adding experience and firepower to the team's resurgence. The Houston Rockets ranked second in the Western Conference with 52 wins and 30 losses in the regular season, second only to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
