Naz Reid's future with the Minnesota Timberwolves is unclear. He has until June 30 to decide whether to exercise his $15 million player option for the 2025-26 season, but nothing has been decided yet.

The 25-year-old Reed mainly plays center and joined the Minnesota Timberwolves on a two-way contract in 2019. He gradually grew into a key rotation player in the Timberwolves and won the NBA's Best Sixth Man Award in 2024.

Reed played 80 regular season games for the Timberwolves this season, averaging a career-high 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, shooting 46.2% from the field and 37.9% from three-point range. In the playoffs, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, shooting 50.9% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range. Despite this, the Timberwolves were still eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder 1-4 in yesterday's Western Conference Finals.

As the season comes to an end, Reed's contract extension prospects have become a focus of public opinion. According to ESPN reporter Bobby Marks, the Timberwolves are currently considering two options: one is to offer Reed a four-year contract worth a total of $87.2 million to replace Reed's player option for next season; the other is to let Reed sign a four-year contract starting in the 2026/27 season with a total value of $94.2 million after exercising the option.

As for Reed himself, he seems to have not ruled out the possibility of returning to the Timberwolves as a substitute next season. At the season summary press conference, Reed made it clear: "I am 100% sure that I deserve to be a starter, but if it is for the team's victory, sometimes some sacrifices must be made."

He further emphasized: "I do think I have the ability to start, but things will always change. You can never predict what will happen in the future."
