With goals from Jones, Szoboszlai, and Salah, Liverpool secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Brighton in the fourth round of the 2025/26 FA Cup. Jones stated that he and the team remain focused on winning titles in all competitions.
In the 42nd minute, Kelkes Milos chipped a pass from the left wing into the box, where Jones slotted home to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead.
In the 56th minute of the second half, Salah passed the ball into the penalty area, and Szoboszlai volleyed it into the net, giving Liverpool a 2-0 lead over Brighton. In the 67th minute, Salah was brought down by Pascal Gross while dribbling forward, resulting in a penalty for Liverpool. Salah then converted the penalty, extending Liverpool's lead to 3-0.
Liverpool ultimately defeated Brighton 3-0 at Anfield, advancing to the round of 16.
Liverpool midfielder Jones said, "It was a great game. We scored three fantastic goals and kept a clean sheet, which is the best possible result. To be honest, I've scored more goals before, but my overall performance wasn't always as good. I just want to play well, stay in the squad, and help the team as much as possible. I feel lucky to have so many teammates who can score goals. Of course, it would be even better to score more goals, and I will continue to work hard."
“I am a football player and a midfielder. I want to score goals, provide assists, and help the team. But as long as the manager needs me, whether I play as a center-back, full-back, or striker, I will give my all. In this game, I played as a full-back and scored a goal, which helped the team, so I am very happy.”
When asked if the players' understanding had improved, Jones said, "We've actually been working together for a while now. This season obviously hasn't reached the level we expected, but that's football. You can't expect to win every game easily. Other teams are improving, and we are improving too. New players are joining, and some are leaving; it all takes time. I think the team has developed good chemistry, and more importantly, the relationships off the field are also very harmonious."
“I think the new players will feel like they’ve always been here. For example, Wirtz may have taken some time to score more goals, but he’s always played very well. As he gradually adapts, he’s been a huge help to the team. Ekitic and the other teammates are also contributing to the team. It’s just a matter of time before we rediscover our championship-level performance.”
Furthermore, Liverpool will not need to participate in the Champions League play-offs, so Sloot's team will have some time to adjust and prepare for the upcoming matches.
Jones continued, "I want to win everything. I'm both a player and a fan, and I know what the fans expect. When you play for a team like this, you have to win trophies, whether it's the Champions League or the Premier League, those are the two most important competitions. If we can't win those two competitions, we still have other competitions to fight for."
“We are still competing in the Champions League and the FA Cup, which is also an important competition in England. It would be fantastic to win both trophies. But there are still many games to play, and we will take it one game at a time. Hopefully, we can win the Champions League and the FA Cup by the end of the season.”
