Liverpool released a statement on Friday, announcing that the 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremy Frimpong has officially joined. Both parties signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
Jeremy Frimpong came from Manchester City's youth training and made his professional debut for Celtic on September 25, 2019. He played for Celtic for two seasons, contributing 3 goals and 8 assists in 51 games in all lines, and won the Scottish Premier League championship, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup with the team.
In January 2021, Frimpong joined Leverkusen from Celtic for 11 million euros. To date, he has made 190 appearances for Leverkusen, scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists, and won 1 Bundesliga title, 1 German Cup title and 1 German Super Cup title with the team.
As for the national team, Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands in October 2023 and has made 12 appearances so far, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists.
For Liverpool, Frimpong's arrival will fill the vacancy left by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure. In order to facilitate this transfer, Liverpool activated Frimpong's 35 million euro release clause in his contract, plus a floating bonus of up to 5 million euros.
After completing the transfer, Frimpong said: "Things went quite smoothly. Liverpool took the initiative to contact me and expressed interest. For me, the decision to join Liverpool was a no-brainer."
"I said to my agent: 'Whatever you do, make sure the transfer happens.'"
"Liverpool fans, I will give my all and put in all my energy and dedication. Let's win together, celebrate together and create great things together."
"I am very happy to be here at Liverpool. Thank you for accepting me. I will not let you down and I will bring the passion you want."
