The Dallas Mavericks officially announced the promotion of guard Ryan Nembhardt to regular starting position and the signing of two other two-way players.

The Dallas Mavericks released a statement on Sunday confirming that 22-year-old two-way guard Ryan Nembhardt has been awarded a regular contract. Specific terms of the contract were not disclosed, in accordance with team policy.

ESPN's Shams Charania revealed that the two sides signed a standard two-year NBA contract. To make room for Nembuhard, the Mavericks had to waive 29-year-old veteran point guard Tyus Jones.

Nembhard played for the Creighton Blue Jays and Gonzaga Bulldogs in NCAA Division I, winning the NCAA assists title in 2025. Despite going undrafted in the NBA draft that same year, he immediately secured a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

To date, Nembhard has played 38 NBA regular season games for the Mavericks, averaging 6.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 17.0 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 42.9% and a three-point percentage of 37.9%.

Mavericks roster adjustments after Nembuhad's promotion

After converting Nembuhardt's two-way contract to a permanent one, the Mavericks did not slow down their roster adjustments. They subsequently signed John Prakidas and Tyler Smith to two-way contracts and waived 23-year-old guard Miles Kelly.

The 22-year-old Prakidas is a 6'6" guard weighing 93kg. After going undrafted in 2025, he joined the San Diego Clippers, the Los Angeles Clippers' G League affiliate. To date, he has played 13 games for the San Diego Clippers, averaging 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

As for 21-year-old Tyler Smith, he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft with the 33rd overall pick. As a 2.06-meter tall, 102-kilogram power forward, Smith only played 23 games for the Bucks in his rookie season, averaging 2.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game, and won an NBA Cup championship with the team.

So far this season, Tyler Smith plays for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Houston Rockets' G League affiliate. He has appeared in 21 games for the Vipers, averaging 15.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game.
