Official: The Pelicans have officially waived 23-year-old shooting guard Jaden Springer

The New Orleans Pelicans released a statement Thursday confirming the waiver of Jaden Springer, who had played in two preseason games with the New Orleans Pelicans but was unable to play in Wednesday's season opener against the Memphis Grizzlies.
According to statistics, Springer averaged 6.3 minutes per game in two preseason games, scoring 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
The 23-year-old Springer, who primarily plays shooting guard, was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 28th pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. During his time with the 76ers, he played in 50 regular season games, averaging 3.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.
In February 2024, Springer was traded from the 76ers to the Boston Celtics. In his first season with the Celtics, he played in 17 regular season games for the team, averaging 2.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game, and eventually won the NBA championship with stars such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
In February 2025, Springer was traded from the Celtics to the Houston Rockets as part of a trade. After being waived by the Rockets, he signed with the rebuilding Utah Jazz, where he remained until being waived again in July of this year. During that time, Springer played 17 games for the Jazz, averaging 1.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 41.1% from the field and 20.7% from three-point range.
It's unclear what Springer's future will be. He could continue his development with the Pelicans' G League affiliate, the Birmingham Central, sign a two-way contract with another NBA team, or continue his career overseas.
