According to Lakers reporter Anthony Ervin on Wednesday, Austin Reaves is expected to decline his player option after the 2025-26 season. If so, he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
According to TA, Reeves has rejected the Lakers' four-year, $89.2 million contract extension offer. This move doesn't indicate he intends to leave the Lakers, but rather seeks a new contract with an annual salary between $30 million and $35 million. The Lakers also want to keep Reeves, but only if he can form a potential championship-contending partnership with Luka Dončić.
The 27-year-old Rivers, who primarily plays guard, signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers as an undrafted player in 2021. So far, he has played in 280 regular season games for the Lakers, averaging 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, while shooting 48.1% from the field and 37.0% from three-point range.
In the playoffs, Reeves played 26 games for the Lakers, averaging 16.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 45.5% and a three-point shooting percentage of 37.9%.
Thanks to his solid performance, Rivers has already attracted the attention of several teams. According to league sources, the San Antonio Spurs and other teams are closely monitoring his situation. However, Rivers' future will ultimately depend on his chemistry with Dončić and the Lakers' overall performance this season.
