Romano: Inter Miami plans to sign Casemiro on a free transfer this summer; negotiations are underway.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Miami are interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Casemiro on a free transfer this summer. Casemiro is also open to a move to MLS, and the two sides have already begun substantive discussions regarding the potential transfer.

Due to poor midfield control, Inter Miami currently sits third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 3 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, accumulating 10 points. They therefore plan to strengthen their midfield to provide more effective support for Lionel Messi.

After a search, Inter Miami set their sights on Casemiro. The 34-year-old Casemiro came through São Paulo's youth academy and transferred to Real Madrid in July 2013 for €6 million. He played eight seasons for Real Madrid, making 336 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 29 assists, winning five Champions League titles, three Club World Cup titles, three La Liga titles, three UEFA Super Cup titles, one Copa del Rey title, and three Spanish Super Cup titles.

In August 2022, Casemiro joined Manchester United for £70 million. To date, he has made 155 appearances for Manchester United, contributing 24 goals and 14 assists, and winning one FA Cup and one EFL Cup with the team.

Since confirming his departure this summer upon the expiration of his contract in January, Casemiro has become a focus of attention in Saudi Arabia, Europe, and even MLS. According to Romano, the player has shown some interest in Inter Miami's projects, with the superior living environment and family factors in the area being key considerations.

However, the key to whether the two sides can reach an agreement lies in the salary issue. Casemiro earns a weekly wage of £350,000 at Manchester United, while the MLS salary system has certain limitations.
