Borussia Dortmund announced on Wednesday that they have renewed the contract of Felix Nmecha. The new contract extends the original expiry date of 2028 by two years, until June 30, 2030.
This contract extension also propels Nmecha into the ranks of Borussia Dortmund's highest-paid players. Multiple sources confirm that his annual salary will increase from €5 million to €8 million.
The 25-year-old Nmecha is a 1.90-meter-tall German midfielder who has played for Manchester City and Wolfsburg during his career. Since joining Borussia Dortmund in July 2023 for €30 million, he has made 108 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 8 assists.
Thanks to his outstanding performances at Borussia Dortmund, Nmecha had previously attracted close attention from several Premier League giants, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. However, with his new contract now in effect, the likelihood of him moving to the Premier League in the near future has significantly decreased.
Following the contract extension, Borussia Dortmund's sporting general manager, Lars Ricken, said: "We are delighted to continue working with Felix. He fully identifies with Borussia Dortmund and is a key part of our team's strategic plan. His contract extension reflects both the team's commitment to stability and our confidence in achieving success together in the years to come."
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: “Felix suffered some injuries early in his time at Dortmund, but he has now become an indispensable member of our team. He possesses excellent attacking and dribbling abilities, providing tremendous support in midfield. Even under pressure from opponents, he always finds creative solutions. He has demonstrated a very high level of performance for both Dortmund and the German national team. We believe his growth trajectory will continue to rise in the future.”
Nmecha himself said: "I have had many wonderful experiences with the club and the fans over the past few years, and I am very grateful for the club's trust in me. In return, I want to do my best for Borussia Dortmund."
