Brest announced on its official website on Tuesday that new Strasbourg signing, young France U21s international center-back Soumaïla Coulibaly, has returned to the club on-loan.

According to Brest's official statement, Coulibaly will play for the club on-loan until the end of the season. The loan agreement does not include any buyout clause, and he will once again wear the number 44 jersey.

Although the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has closed player registrations, Coulibaly is under 22 years old and meets the requirements for homegrown players from the domestic youth academy, so he is automatically registered on Brest's B-list.

In addition, according to American outlet CBS Sports' resident renowned transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, this loan will not affect Chelsea's possibility of signing him from sister club Strasbourg in the future.

About Soumaïla Coulibaly

Coulibaly, who is still 21, was born on October 14, 2003, in Montfermeil, France. He is 1.90 meters tall and plays as a center-back. He holds dual French and Malian citizenship.

Coulibaly joined the youth academy of his hometown club, Montfermeil, at the age of 12. He joined Paris Saint-Germain's youth academy in 2018, but because the club did not promote players from their youth academy at the time, he chose to leave the club after his contract expired in 2021 and joined Borussia Dortmund.

The following November, Coulibaly, then 19, completed his Borussia Dortmund first-team debut in a Champions League match by coming on as a substitute.

In August 2023, Coulibaly was loaned-out to Royal Antwerp. During his time there, he reached the Belgian Cup final with the club.

Last August, Coulibaly joined Brest on-loan for the first time.

In July of this year, Coulibaly joined Strasbourg for €7.5 million.

However, in the three months since joining Chelsea's sister club, Coulibaly has made just one appearance in all competitions.

Last season, Coulibaly played 16 times in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club, providing one assist and helping the club reach the Coupe de France quarterfinals.
