According to NBA insider Marc Stein on Wednesday, 53-year-old Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd is expected to remain in his position.

Jason Kidd played 19 seasons in the NBA, playing for the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets, and New York Knicks. His most notable achievement was leading the Mavericks to the NBA championship in 2011, and he garnered numerous accolades, including five All-NBA First Team selections, four All-Defensive First Team selections, ten All-Star appearances, five assists titles, and induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

After retiring in 2013, Kidd chose to transition into coaching. He coached the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks before succeeding Rick Carlisle as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks in June 2021.

To date, Kidd has a regular season record of 203 wins and 201 losses with the Mavericks. He has also led the team to the conference finals twice and reached the NBA Finals in 2024.

The Mavericks have continued their poor performance this season, currently sitting third-to-last in the Western Conference with a 24-52 record. They have also lost several key players, including Luka Doncic, who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers by Nico Harrison.

Nevertheless, the Mavericks currently have no plans to change coaches. They hope that Kidd can continue to develop 2025's number one draft pick, Cooper Flagg, rather than moving to a management role as rumored.

Marc Stein further pointed out that the Mavericks' main task going forward is to hire a general manager who can work effectively with Kidd. They are expected to begin recruitment after the regular season ends, with former Warriors general manager Bob Myers listed as their top candidate. The Mavericks may also extend an offer to Tim Connery if he leaves the Timberwolves after this season. However, Connery's current contract with the Timberwolves runs until 2027.
