Leverkusen announced on Tuesday that 21-year-old AZ Alkmaar striker Ernest Poku has officially joined the club. The two sides have signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.

The official also confirmed that Poku will wear the No. 19 jersey at Leverkusen. His transfer fee is 10 million euros, plus a floating bonus of up to 2 million euros.

In Leverkusen's tactical system, Poku will play as the right winger in a three-forward formation. Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes said: "Ernest Poku is an excellent winger. His speed and dribbling ability can bring special changes to our attacking end."

"His style of play is deft and decisive," Rolfes added. "With his pace and energy, Ernest significantly expands our tactical options on the field."

Poku was born in Hamburg, Germany in 2004 to Ghanaian parents. He officially joined the AZ Alkmaar youth academy at the age of 15 and made his first-team debut in the Eredivisie on August 14, 2021.

So far, Poku has made 79 appearances for Alkmaar, scoring 6 goals and providing 14 assists.

After completing the transfer, Poku said: "I feel good, very grateful and proud. I can't wait to start the next chapter."

Talking about his goals for the new season, he said frankly: "I hope to score a lot of goals and provide assists. Most importantly, I hope to play a key role for the team and the fans. I can't wait to see them and feel the atmosphere of the stadium."
