Chelsea defeated Los Angeles FC 2-0 on matchday 1 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Group Stage Group D match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, USA on Monday.

In the first half, Neto scored from close range. In the second half, new signing Liam Delap assisted Fernández to score from close range. In the end, Chelsea defeated Los Angeles FC 2-0. After this round of matches, the Blues who got off to a flying start temporarily leads the group with 3 points; Los Angeles FC is temporarily bottom of the table with 0 points.

First Half

In the 5th minute, Noni Madueke made a through pass from the left wing. After successfully beating the offside trap, Nicolas Jackson quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before turning around and shoving the ball with his left foot from the left side of the box, but his shot was saved by Hugo Lloris.

In the 17th minute, Chelsea launched a quick counterattack. Jackson made a through pass from the front. After successfully beating the offside trap, Madueke quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, shoved the ball with his left foot from the left side of the box. His shot was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Lloris. After intercepting the ball, Cole Palmer made a left-footed shot from the center of the box, but his shot was blocked by Aaron Long.

In the 34th minute, Jackson made a through pass low diagonal pass from the midfield center circle. After successfully beating the offside trap, Pedro Neto quickly followed up, got the ball, cuts inside and dribbled past Sergi Valencia before shoving the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his left foot from a very close distance in the box. Chelsea broke the deadlock first to take a 1-0 lead!

At the end of the first half, Chelsea temporarily led Los Angeles FC 1-0 into the halftime break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 54th minute, Neto crossed into the box from the byline at the left wing. Jackson rose high and attempted with a header in the penalty area box, however his effort was was blocked by Timothy Tillman and then saved by Lloris.

3 minutes later, Igor Jesus made a long pass from his own back half. After successfully beating the offside trap, Dénis Bouanga got the ball and dribbled into the left side of the box before volleying with his right foot, but his shot was blocked by Robert Sánchez.

In the 79th minute, Delap crossed into the box from the byline at the right wing. Enzo Fernández quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball bottom right corner of the net with his left foot from a very close distance in the box. Chelsea secured the victory with 2-0! This is the second consecutive major cup competition match that Fernández has scored since the UEFA Conference League final this season! This was also Delap's first assist since joining the Blues from Ipswich Town a few weeks ago!

2 minutes later, Mark Delgado made a long pass from his own back half. After successfully beating the offside trap, Bouanga quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the center of the box before and shoving the ball with his right foot, but his shot was saved by Sánchez.

When the final whistle is blown, Chelsea defeated Los Angeles FC 2-0.
