Premier League club Brighton officially announced that winger Tommy Watson has completed the joining procedures and will become an official member of the team from June 1, 2025. The contract will last until June 2029. The transfer still needs to be approved by the Premier League and the English Football Association.
Watson's arrival has attracted widespread attention. He became famous in the Championship promotion play-offs last week. At that time, Watson scored a lore goal for Sunderland in the 95th minute, helping the team beat Sheffield United 2-1, locking in the victory and earning himself a chance to move to the Premier League.
In the 2024-25 season, Watson played 24 games for Sunderland in all competitions and scored 3 goals, showing strong speed, breakthrough and finishing ability, becoming an important variable in the team's frontcourt.
Brighton technical director David Weir revealed as early as April that the club had reached a transfer agreement with Sunderland and spoke highly of the young star: "Tommy is a young player with great potential and we have been keeping a close eye on him for some time."
“He has shown impressive growth and determination at Sunderland and we are very much looking forward to having him join the team in the summer as he continues to take the next step in his career.”
Watson's career is still on a fast track, and before joining Brighton, he will represent the England U19 national team in the upcoming European U19 Championship. England U19 is in Group B with Norway, Germany and the Netherlands, and fans are looking forward to Watson's performance on the international stage.
