ESPN's Shams Charania confirmed on Monday that Tyus Jones is set to join the Denver Nuggets as a free agent. The two sides are expected to sign him for the remainder of the season, with further arrangements still pending.

Jones, 29, was the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft. He has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and Orlando Magic. To date, he has played 738 regular season games, averaging 7.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.0 steals in 20.7 minutes per game, with a 44.2% field goal percentage and a 37.2% three-point percentage.

Jones also played 27 playoff games, averaging 5.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 17.9 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 36.5% and a three-point percentage of 31.4%. His most representative achievement in his playoff career was undoubtedly advancing to the Western Conference semifinals with the Grizzlies in the 2021/22 season.

However, Jones' journey this season has been fraught with setbacks: he was traded to the Magic, Hornets, and Mavericks in quick succession, and was recently waived by the Mavericks as they were eager to make two-way guard Ryan Nembhardt a regular starter. During this period, Jones played a total of 56 regular season games, averaging only 3.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 15.8 minutes per game.

Nevertheless, Jones' arrival is still a timely boost for the Nuggets. The Nuggets' bench ranks third-to-last in the latest NBA assists per game rankings, only ahead of the Rockets and Lakers. As a 6'3" (1.83m) and 89kg (4.5kg) point guard, Jones will fill Jamal Murray's role as a backup and provide the Nuggets' rotation with playmaking and immediate impact.
