Dallas Mavericks No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg suffered a setback in his first back-to-back game of his NBA career.

Flagg injured his left shoulder less than a minute into Monday night's game against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder and was limited to just two points as the Dallas Mavericks lost 94-101.

During a boxing match, Flagg felt a bump on his shoulder and repeatedly held his shoulder to indicate pain. He shot 1-for-6 in the first half, scoring on a single layup. He missed all three of his three-point attempts in the second half and used a heat pack on the bench to ease the pain.

Although Flagg still insisted on playing 31 minutes, coach Jason Kidd chose to let him sit on the bench during the crucial final quarter. The Mavericks once narrowed the gap from 22 points to just 1 point, but ultimately failed to reverse the situation.

After the game, Flagg iced his left shoulder in the locker room and admitted that he was a little tired and had a minor injury. He is expected to undergo an MRI. The 19-year-old rookie from Duke University averaged 13 points in the first four games of this season and scored a personal high of 22 points in the game against the Toronto Raptors.

This poor performance has once again drawn attention to Flagg's adaptation period. In an interview, Flagg said: "I understand the coach's decision. I wasn't in good shape today and didn't have the impact I should have."

The Mavericks' next back-to-back schedule will be on November 7-8, against the Memphis Grizzlies and the Washington Wizards. Flagg promised to adjust to the state as soon as possible: "This is just part of the process. I'm not too worried."
