Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young is disappointed with the lack of a contract extension offer, NBA reporter Mark Spears revealed on Tuesday.
Trae Young is eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million extension this summer. His current contract ends in the 2025-26 season and has a player option for the 2026-27 season.
According to Spotrac, Trae Young's salary next season is just under $46 million, and if he chooses to exercise his player option for the 2026-27 season, his salary will be close to $49 million.
ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks further pointed out that if he gets a maximum salary extension, Trae Young's salary in the 2026/27 season is expected to increase to 51 million US dollars.
Mark Spears previously reported that the Hawks and Trae Young "have not actually held any substantive negotiations regarding a contract extension." ESPN reporter Shams Charania added that several team executives are closely monitoring Trae Young's future and contract status, but the player himself has no intention of leaving the team for the time being.
Trae Young, 26, primarily plays point guard and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft. To date, he has appeared in 483 regular-season games with the Hawks, averaging 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 43.3% from the field and 35.2% from three-point range. He has been selected to four NBA All-Star teams (2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025).
Trae Young also played 27 playoff games for the Hawks, averaging 26.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game, with a shooting percentage of 40.2% and a three-point shooting percentage of 29.7%.
