Newcastle United defender Matt Targett will join Championship side Middlesbrough on loan for the 2025-26 season. The 29-year-old, who joined from Aston Villa in 2022 and has made 47 appearances for Newcastle, is seeking more regular playing time on Teesside after injuries limited his playing time.  

In an interview, Matt Targett said: "I am very happy to join Middlesbrough. The team has started well this season and has shown strong competitiveness in the Championship. I am very much looking forward to joining and contributing my strength. I have lacked game opportunities in the past period of time, and now is the stage when I am eager to play and enjoy the game. When I learned that the club was interested in introducing me, I immediately knew that this is where I want to play. I hope to bring my experience to the team and help the team continue to move forward."
