Alaves officially announced on Tuesday the appointment of Quique Sánchez Flores as their first-team manager. He will take over from Eduardo Coudet and serve until June 30, 2028.
Flores, 61, has previously served as manager for Real Madrid U19, Getafe, Valencia, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Al Ain, Watford, Espanyol, Shanghai Shenhua, and Sevilla. He has been unemployed since being dismissed from Sevilla in June 2024.
According to Transfermarkt, Flores has managed a total of 618 club matches to date, with 251 wins, 155 draws, and 212 losses. His most representative achievements are undoubtedly leading Atlético Madrid to one UEFA Europa League title and one UEFA Super Cup title in the 2009/10 season.
For Flores, his primary task upon taking office is to lead Alavés out of its current predicament as quickly as possible. Alavés currently sits in 16th place in La Liga with a record of 7 wins, 6 draws, and 13 losses, accumulating 27 points, just 3 points above the relegation zone.
As for Flores' predecessor, Kudet, he will return to River Plate as head coach. According to River Plate president Stefano Di Carlo, the two sides have reached an agreement on a 21-month contract.
“It’s finalized,” he told ESPN definitively. “We’ll make the official announcement tomorrow. If all goes well, it should be around noon.”
