Leicester City coach Andy King said he was delighted to see his team successfully conclude an intense first week of pre-season training with a 3-1 win over Peterborough United on Saturday.  

Louis Page's two goals came before and after Chris Conn-Clark's equaliser for visiting Peterborough United, before Silko Thomas' curling effort sealed the win for the Blues at the weekend's game at Chelsea Football Club's training ground in London.  

After the game, Andy King said: "This is indeed a good result. The 3-1 victory is not just because of the score. In fact, the focus of this game is not on the result. When losing, people often say that the result is not important, but even if we win, we have been emphasizing this week that the meaning of the game is far more than winning or losing."  

“The players were tired before the game and had a tough week, like a pre-season game. But to be fair, they did everything we asked of them, just like they did all week. We could have been better in terms of possession, but fatigue affected the performance and the overall competitiveness of the game was not at its best level.”  

“This is our first game. Usually we start playing official games against other teams in the second week, and we usually play against other teams in the first week. But I think this game is a great exercise for the players. I am very pleased to see the fans score goals and the young players perform well.”  

Andy King was particularly pleased with the performance of the Academy players, many of whom have been with the club since the age groups, and he was pleased to see their continued growth and improvement under the guidance of senior professionals last week.  

He went on to add: “It was really encouraging to see them put in a performance like that against a great League One side, Peterborough, who are consistently at the top of the league.”  

“The players and everyone in the academy has put in a huge amount of work to get here. As someone who has worked in an academy myself, I know what it means to play with the academy players, but the kids at the U9, U10 and U11 levels have also put in a lot of work to get us to where we are today.”  

"We have to keep the squad balanced. It's impossible to play all 11 young players at the same time. As the older players return, competition for positions will be more intense. This is the reality of professional football. As the game progresses, the team will not be able to give all players a chance to play. In the end, the best performing players will be eligible to play. After getting the jersey, the key is to work hard to keep your position. To be fair, based on the performance in this game, the young players performed very well."
