Barcelona announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has renewed the contract of its German head coach Hans Dieter Flick.
According to Barcelona's official statement, Flick has signed on a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027.
After completing his contract extension procedures, Flick, who was interviewed by Barcelona's official website again, said: "I am very happy because this journey has continued. I think this is not the peak of our team. We are a young team with a lot of great potential."
"Of course, we went through some difficult moments in November and December, but we always kept calm, and then in the second half of the season, we showed a different high level. We fully deserve the achievements we deserve this season, so I am very happy to continue to work with this team."
About Hans Dieter Flick
Flick, 60, was born on February 24, 1965 in Heidelberg, Germany. He is 1.77 meters tall. He played as a midfielder during his playing career. He was Bayern Munich legend and also played for Sandhausen, Köln and Victoria Bammental.
In 1996, Flick, who had not retired yet at the time, began to serve as a player-manager for Victoria Bammental. Although the club was relegated later, he was still able to stay for two seasons.
In July 2000, Flick was appointed as the head coach at Hoffenheim.
During his five-year spell as Die Kraichgauer's head coach, Flick won the North Baden Cup four times and the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg once with the club. However, he was sacked in November 2005 after failing to achieve the club's goal of winning promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.
In July of the following year, Flick served as assistant coach of Red Bull Salzburg and also served as assistant coach of the Germany national team, becoming Joachim Löw's assistant.
As Die Mannschaft's assistant coach, Flick won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with the team and reached the final of the 2008 European Championship.
Between September 2014 and January 2017, Flick served as the Sporting Director of the German Football Association.
From July 2017 to February of the following year, Flick returned to Hoffenheim as Sporting Director.
In July 2019, Flick first returned to Bayern as an assistant coach to assist the then head coach Niko Kovač. Later, after the latter was sacked in November of the same year, he was appointed as the interim head coach and was officially promoted to as permanent head coach one month later.
During his one-and-a-half-year spell as Die Roten's head coach, Flick led the team to successfully win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, DFL-Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2020, achieving Sextuple, and was voted as UEFA's Head Coach of the year.
In May 2021, Flick was appointed as the head coach of the Germany national team, but he was sacked due to his poor performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the upset defeat to Japan in September of the following year.
In May 2024, Flick officially replaced the club legend Xavi as the head coach of Barcelona.
This season, Flick has coached the Blaugrana in 59 games in all competitions, achieving 43 wins, 7 draws and 9 losses, with a win percentage of 72.88%, during which he helped the team complete the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España Treble, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
