Barcelona announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has officially extended the contract of its Netherlands international defensive midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
According to Barça's official statement, De Jong has signed on a new long-term four-year deal which runs until the summer of 2029. In accordance with La Liga regulations, De Jong's buyout clause has also been increased to €5 billion.
After completing his contract extension procedures, De Jong, who was interviewed by the Barcelona official website again, saying, "This extension means a lot to me because I have always dreamed of playing for Barça. This is not just because I play for Barça, I will give my all and continue to do my best for the team."

About Frenkie de Jong
De Jong, 28, was born on May 12, 1997, in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. He is 1.82 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.
De Jong played for RKC Waalwijk's youth academy as a child before joining Willem II in 2004 and completed his Willem II first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in an Eredivisie match against ADO Den Haag in May 2015, at the age of 17.
In August of the same year, De Jong joined Ajax for €1 million but was immediately loaned back to Willem II until December 31, 2015.
After returning from his loan, De Jong first played for the Ajax reserve team before making his first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Europa League match against Panathinaikos in November 2016.
Since then, De Jong has established himself as one of Europe's best defensive midfielders through his outstanding performances.
During his three-year spell with de Godenzonen, De Jong won the Eredivisie once, the KNVB Cup once, and reached the Europa League final once with the club.
