Borussia Dortmund announced on Thursday that Cruzeiro left-back Coon Platts has joined the club this summer. The two sides signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.
Fabrizio Romano further pointed out that the initial fee for Platts' transfer to Dortmund was €7 million. If performance-related bonuses are included, the total transaction could reach as high as €12 million.
The 17-year-old Platts came through Cruzeiro's youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the Copa Sudamericana on May 7, 2025. He has made 17 appearances for Cruzeiro to date and scored one goal, and is considered one of the best young full-backs in Brazil.
Regarding the signing, Dortmund's sporting director Lars Ricken commented: "We have signed Kaun, a player with great potential. He is still young, yet he is already one of the most talented players in South America. With his skills, ambition, and potential for development, he is a perfect fit for Dortmund."
Another sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, later added: "We are delighted to sign Coon. He is a highly talented and versatile player who can play multiple defensive positions in different systems. His one-on-one ability, physical attributes, and willpower will undoubtedly strengthen our team next season."
Platts concluded by saying, "I am very proud to play for this great club starting this summer. I am also very excited to join Dortmund and will give my all from the first day I wear the yellow and black jersey to contribute to the team's success."
