Callum Wilson points out that West Ham United must improve their control of the pace of Premier League matches and hold onto their leads in crucial moments. Despite recent comebacks against Newcastle United, Burnley, and Manchester United, securing seven points, they also missed out on victories away to Bournemouth and Brighton.
Callum Wilson's goal gave West Ham United a 2-0 lead against Bournemouth, but Bournemouth equalized with two goals in the second half. Wilson then assisted Jarrod Bowen to give West Ham the lead in their away game against Brighton. However, Brighton scored a controversial goal in the final stages of the match, costing West Ham the victory.
Reflecting on the 1-1 draw against Brighton, Callum Wilson said: "Overall, I'm very disappointed. We created some chances, but it's a shame to concede a goal in the final moments after taking the lead. The team needs to learn to hold onto their lead in the closing stages of a game."
"It's a pity that my teammates and I couldn't score again, but that's football. If you're playing away and you're leading 1-0 near the end, you naturally want to hold on to the win. Now, we need to move forward and prepare for the next game."
Although Callum Wilson expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's failure to secure three points, he also pointed out that the referee ultimately ruled the goals valid despite Haralambos Costuras' dangerous foul on Dinos Mavropanos and Giorginho Ruttel's handball before the Netherlands scored.
He said, "I really think he raised his leg too high; I just saw it with my own eyes. To be honest, that move was very dangerous. And that handball—the ball wasn't cleared when he shot, and then the same person scored again. I feel like we might be at a disadvantage, but VAR exists to make decisions, and we can only respect the rulings."
It's worth noting that Callum Wilson played a key role in West Ham United's impressive run of form, losing only one of their last six Premier League matches. He scored against Burnley and Bournemouth, and just seconds after coming on as a substitute, he assisted Jarrod Bowen's goal against Brighton.
Callum Wilson continued: “Things are improving, and the players are performing well. We played two tough away games and got two positive results. While we would have liked to take all three points in both games because points are crucial for the team, a point at Old Trafford and the American Express Stadium against strong opponents would have been a reasonable result. ”
