Manchester City announced on Monday that they have officially signed Crystal Palace centre-back Mark Guey. The two sides signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.
The official announcement also confirmed that Goy will wear the number 15 jersey for Manchester City.
The 25-year-old Gueye, originally a product of Chelsea's youth academy, transferred to Crystal Palace in July 2021 for £18 million. To date, he has made 188 appearances for Crystal Palace, scoring 11 goals and providing 8 assists, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield with the team.
Thanks to his consistent performances at the club level, Gueye has been called up to the England national team since March 2022. To date, he has made 26 appearances for the Three Lions, contributing 1 goal and 5 assists.
Gueye's contract with Crystal Palace was originally set to expire this June. According to multiple sources, the fixed fee for this transfer is approximately £20 million, plus up to £10 million in performance-related bonuses.
Other reports suggest that Goy earns £300,000 a week at Manchester City, the same as Bernardo Silva.
For Manchester City, the arrival of Mark will effectively alleviate their shortage of central defenders due to injuries to Ruben Dias, Josko Gwadiol, and John Stones. After the signing was completed, Manchester City's sporting director, Hugo Viana, said: "Mark has long been undoubtedly one of the best defenders in English football, and we are very pleased to bring him to Manchester City."
“I think we’ve signed an extremely talented player who will help the team reach new heights. He’s only 25 years old, but he has already shown leadership qualities, excellent professionalism, and a strong drive.”
"He is physically strong, has outstanding defensive ability, and is very good at reading the game. He brings passion and energy every time he comes on the court."
“I’m delighted he ultimately chose us,” Viana concluded. “Mark is in the prime of his career. I believe all Manchester City fans are looking forward to seeing him in the sky blue jersey.”
Gue also expressed his excitement about joining Manchester City in a statement: "I am very happy and incredibly proud to be a part of Manchester City."
"This transfer feels like a reward for all the hard work I've put in throughout my career. I'm now playing for one of the top clubs in England, working with an amazing and star-studded team. It feels great to say that."
“I am eager to grow as a player and as an individual. I also believe that everything will be possible at this club.”
“I love football – it has given me so much over the years. Being able to continue developing at Manchester City means a lot to me and my family.”
“I can’t wait to start this new journey. I’m eager to see my teammates, train hard, understand what the manager expects of me, and then show the Manchester City fans what I can do.”
