Real Mallorca announced on Thursday that 45-year-old Martin Demichelis has been appointed as the first-team manager, effective immediately. The contract runs until the end of the season, with an option to extend.
This appointment to Real Mallorca marks Demichelis' return to the managerial helm after a nine-month hiatus. He had been unemployed since being dismissed from Monterrey in May 2025.
As one of Argentina's legendary center-backs in the first decade of the 21st century, Demichelis won 19 titles during his playing career with River Plate, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City, including the Bundesliga, La Liga, and the Premier League. He retired in July 2017 and subsequently began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Malaga.
To date, Demichelis's coaching career has spanned various youth teams at Bayern Munich, River Plate in Argentina, and Monterrey in Mexico. During this time, he has accumulated a record of 110 wins, 41 draws, and 42 losses, and led River Plate to win the Argentine Primera División title, the Argentine Professional Football League Champions League, and the Argentine Super Cup.
For Demichelis, his primary task upon taking office is to lead Mallorca to safety from relegation. Under former manager Jagba Arazart, Mallorca currently sits third from bottom in La Liga with a record of 6 wins, 6 draws, and 13 losses, accumulating 24 points and remaining one point away from safety.
