In the 58th minute of the second half, Sunderland's corner kick was headed on, and Talbi curled a shot into the net, leveling the score at 1-1. In the 90th minute, Enzo Lefebvre passed the ball across the goal, and Bryan Broby's shot was saved by Newcastle goalkeeper Ramsdale, but Broby followed up and scored.

We only played well for 45 minutes, and this has happened far too many times this season. This is something we've been working on improving, and we still didn't start the second half well enough; the opponents performed better in the second half. I think we had chances in the first half and some good passing combinations, but I don't think we really showed our true potential."

“They used a one-on-one pressure, with two players constantly marking me, so we always had an extra open player, but we didn’t find him or take advantage of that. We let them get back into the competition and handed the win to them. In my opinion, they weren’t a better team than us, and we shouldn’t have lost to them.”

Gordon also said, "That's football. The most important thing is always the next game. The schedule is always very tight, but it will take a long time for us and the fans to get over this loss because nothing can make up for it."
